Supplement to PART 3 - Special Reports on Paul’s Character to the Leaders of the Church in Rome (Romans 15:14 – 16:27)

8. Paul’s Doxology, as a Concluding Part of his Epistle (Romans 16:25-27)

ROMANS 16:25-27
25 Now to him who is able to establish you according to my Good News and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which has been kept secret through long ages, 26 but now is revealed, and by the Scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, is made known for obedience of faith to all the nations; 27 to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever! Amen.

Paul solemnly closed his epistle to the church in Rome by worshipping God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul acknowledges him as the fountain of all edifying powers, and the only one who is able to give the everlasting power, which establishes the churches and preserves them in the Spirit of his power.

Paul closed this epistle with his indication in its beginning (Romans 1:16). Giving life to those who are dead in sins is realized in the gospel of Paul. There are not only four gospels, namely: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John; but every good news, and declaration of the salvation of Jesus in the preaching of Paul is a genuine gospel. The apostle of the Gentiles admitted that the appearance of the Lord Jesus to him near Damascus, his seeing the living Crucified, and his recognizing that he was the true, promised Christ, were the principal motive for writing his epistles. In his gospel, Paul reveals the mystery to everyone who wants to hear, which was kept secret until that time, but has been revealed now and made known by the scriptures of the prophets in the Old Testament, as ordained by the eternal holy God.

The content of this mystery is that God wants the unclean peoples, and uncalled nations, to learn the obedience of faith, according to the New Testament. Thus, the Lord offers his forgiveness of sins to all men as a free grace, for the sake of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus. Therefore, whoever hears this call, and accepts the gift of God, is saved. Yet, he who disobeys condemns himself.

Paul worshiped God, who is alone wise. He testified thankfully and humbly that God has all the glory and honor, and this human worship became possible by virtue of the work, death, and resurrection of Jesus who reigns with his Father in the union of the Holy Spirit forever. The last word “Amen”, with which Paul closed this epistle to the Romans, signifies that this is the certain truth, which will certainly be accomplished.

PRAYER: We thank you Father, in your son Jesus, because you chose Paul, and called him to bring your redemption to the churches among the Gentiles, also to suffer and die for his service. Help us not to be selfish in spirit, but to bring the complete salvation to all those who long for the truth, under the guidance of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
