4. The Lamb of God's Victory Over the Antichrist - Proclaimed in Advance! (Revelation 17:9b-14)
The Lamb of God is Victorious! (v 14): In order to detect the coming Christ at the right time the ten princes will set spies into the churches, and will also employ modern reconnaissance aircraft and surveillance tanks. They themselves will be entrenched in meter- thick iron and concrete bunkers and dugout caves in order to bomb-proof survive the last battle. But in their search they disregard the fact that the resurrected Christ silently passed through the stone wall of His grave, and appeared several times to his disciples, who were fearfully hiding behind thick walls, to comfort and encourage them to service. The error of the Antichrist exists in his attempt to fight against the spiritual existence of the resurrected Christ using earthly means.
The spirit of the depraved one will drive the alliance of ten rulers forward to fight against the Lord and His church (Revelation 16:14; 19:19). How can created beings be so deluded to not only rebel against their creator, but even want to destroy Him!
Our God has a sense of humor! He does not choose to send an army of angels against this united world-power, but a lamb! John emphasized that the “little lamb”, as formulated in this verse in the Greek, will “all by himself” conquer the rebels. We have a shocking picture before us: In a great plain stands an army armed to the hilt, fitted with modern weapons of incredible destructive power, ready for the final battle between heaven and hell. Then, proceeding forth out of eternity, there approaches them a little lamb slaughtered and bleeding to death. With a matchless simplicity the angel testifies: “The Lamb will overcome them” (Revelation 17:14). The battle had been decided even before it began! The promise of Jesus: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5) is fulfilled in He Himself.
PRAYER: Holy Father, we worship You because you do not and will not become disturbed by the human armies gathered to fight You and Your beloved Son, but You send Your gentle Lamb alone to the arrogant strong ones to overcome the disobedient with a word of His mouth. Help us to resort to the protection of Your Holy Lamb and be united with Him forever. Amen.
