MATTHEW 15:29-31
29 Jesus departed there, and came near to the sea of Galilee; and he went up into the mountain, and sat there. 30 Great multitudes came to him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others, and they put them down at his feet. He healed them, 31 so that the multitude wondered when they saw the mute speaking, injured whole, lame walking, and blind seeing — and they glorified the God of Israel.
(Mark 7:37)

Jesus sat down on a mountain in the semi-desert region of Galilee. He could not enter into His city as usual, because the Pharisees had persecuted Him and provoked the people against Him. The poor came to Him privately to be healed. The maimed asked for someone to carry them to Him, and He healed them. He also loosed the tongues of the dumb. His gospel, by God’s love, caused many to turn to Him and abide in Him. Christ is the only hope for our sick world.

Thus the needy and desperate crowds did not leave Him day or night. They noticed His moving away from Galilee at last. They wanted to benefit from Him, even though they would become hunger and face difficulties in the desert. They remained near Christ to obtain power from Him. How long do you stay with Christ, minutes, hours, days, or all your life? Wherever Christ is present, God’s power of salvation is at work.

Such was the power of Christ, that He healed all sorts of diseases. Those that came to Him brought their sick relations and friends and lay them down at Jesus’ feet. We do not read of anything they said to Him, but they laid them down before Him as objects of pity to be looked upon by Him. Their calamities spoke more for them than the tongue of the most eloquent orator could. Whatever our case is, the only way to find ease and relief is to lay it at Christ’s feet, to spread it before Him. He takes knowledge of this; we must submit it to him and allow Him to deal with us. Those that would have spiritual healing from Christ must lay themselves at His feet to be dealt with as He sees fit.

The lame, blind, dumb, maimed and many others were brought to Christ. See what work sin has done! It has turned the world into a hospital. What various diseases are human bodies subject to! See what work the Savior does! He conquers those enemies of mankind. Here were such diseases as imagination could grasp neither the cause nor the cure of them. Diseases affect the members of the body, and yet these were subject to the commands of Christ. “He sent his word and healed them” (Psalm 107:20).

QUESTION:

  1. Why could Christ heal all kinds of diseases?
