3. All Creatures Worship the Lamb (Revelation 5:8-14)

All Creatures Worship the Lamb

REVELATION 5:13-14
13 I heard every created thing which is in heaven, on the earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb be the blessing, the honor, the glory, and the dominion, forever and ever! Amen!” 14 The four living creatures said, “Amen!” The elders fell down and worshiped.

The stirring praise of the host of angels could be heard in the depths of heaven and up to the ends of the earth, even in the interior of the earth, so that all living creatures felt that the renewing of the world had begun. The descending judgment is the beginning of a new divine creation. John heard a primal scream of the nature without any rebellion in it. Everything and everybody praised the risen crucified One whom they recognized: The Lamb of God is the only guarantor of the new aeon.

In spite of our scientific education and technical skills our understanding is very limited and therefore we are hardly able to think of the praise of animals and elements. The salvation accomplished by Jesus includes not only men and angels but also the whole creation which man is responsible for. By his disobedience against God he dragged them in a merciless struggle for existence. The whole world has been disturbed by the incursion of sin. Satan has become the prince of this world. The creature waits in eager expectation for the redemption of the bodies of the sons of God (Romans 8:18-24). When Jesus returns, then even with the flora and fauna many things will happen what we cannot think of.

Already David knew that sea monsters, fire, hail, snow and fog can praise God (Psalm 148:7-8). He asked sun, moon and stars to praise the Lord (Psalm 148:3). Whoever walks in the Holy Spirit will see through the superficial materialism which is today the mainstream in our society, and will know about the deep relationship between the creator and his creatures. If the thinking of scientists and engineers were related to God and their teaching in a corresponding manner, then we would not contaminate the earth with chemicals and atomic waste.

The praise of the creatures is a permanent issue in the book of Revelation. God, the creator, as well as the Lamb are likewise honored, worshiped and praised. To both is ascribed all power for ever and ever. But there is no danger of a mutual jealousy. He who sits upon the throne and the Lamb are in unity, and that is the fundament of our existence. Creation and reconciliation, preservation and sanctification, judgment and perfection are preformed by the Father and his Son in unity. On the mutual love of the Father and his Son is based our life, therefore our praise is due to the father and the Son in the power of the Holy Spirit.

John saw how the call for peace of the creatures and the homage of Jesus by the angels moved back again to the throne in waves, and the four throne guardians confirmed with a loud amen what they heard. The twenty-four elders fell down on behalf of us and worshiped him, who sits on the throne, and the Lamb.

The Son of God had come home after he had conquered on Golgotha. The Father had given him all authority and made him Lord of the world.

This epochal event in heaven which John reports on and the enthronement of the little Lamb are to change our vision of history. Has the throne of the Father and the Son become the centre of our life? Does our life represent a praise of their indescribable glorious grace? Do we worship ourselves or him, who sits on the throne, and the Lamb?

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, How great Your love is to the sinners that You have created them and after they had fallen in sin You saved them through the atonement of Your only Son, whom You received and honored after His resurrection and sat at Your right hand to reign in harmony with You over those who had accepted and who had denied Him until He comes at the day of judgment with final judgment. Help us to become sanctified and to obey Your commands joyfully and thankfully.

QUESTION:

  1. What touched you most about the multitudinous worship in heaven? What did you accept of it for your own worship to God and His Lamb?
