8. Who Has to go Into Hell? (Revelation 21:8)

How Long Will the Stay in Hell Last? Enlighteners, humanists and many other people rebel against the biblical passages on judgment, which testify that the unbelievers, liars, sorcerers and all other evil-doers will be cast into the lake of burning sulfur. The Catholic Church, Islam and other people proclaim instead of this as a 'time-limited stay in the purgatory for sinners. According to their opinion they shall suffer in hell for a certain time, but after a time each one will be delivered thereof due to his good deeds. Even the worshippers of the devil in Iraq and in Syria are convinced that they will finally be set free from the torment together with Satan for the sake of the love of God.

The Book of Revelation, however, does not confirm such excuses. The holiness of God and His incorruptible righteousness require the consequent punishment of those, who did not accept the present of the water of life. Anyone whose name is not written in the book of life will sink into the heat of hell (Revelation 20:15).

Some upright and pious people speculate that the general amnesty of God would be greater than His judgment as He reconciled in Christ the whole world unto Himself (2 Corinthians 5:17). Moreover, the Almighty had said, “Behold, I make all things new” (Revelation 21:5), and this would also include hell.

These friends are wrong, because only heaven and earth will be created anew, but not the lake which burns with fire of brimstone, in which the worshippers of the beast are tormented day and night for ever and ever. It will not change forever. The “lake” which burns with fire and limestone is mentioned five times in the Book of Revelation (Revelation 19:20; 20:10.14.15; 21:8). The last of these verses comes after the promise of God, “Behold, I make all things new” (21:5). This fact approves that the lake which burns with fire and brimstone is not included in this recreation. In addition this great recreation includes only those people who live in Christ an everlasting live. Those being dead in their sins remain dead in spite of their resurrection for judgment. When they will have received their sentence they will be swallowed up by the second death – not primarily because of their many sins, but because they had missed, rejected, denied or blasphemed the Son of God and His salvation from the wrath of the Almighty, which had been also offered to them (John 3:18-21.36; 5:24-30; 16:8-9; and other verses).

Already John the Baptist had urgently warned against the unquenchable fire of God's judgment (Matthew 3:10-12; Luke 3:9.16.17). Jesus confirmed also unequivocally that a hell fire exists which is prepared for Satan and his followers. He explained several times that this fire will never be quenched. (Matthew 5:22; 13:40-43; 18:8-9; 25:41; Mark 9:43-48; Luke 16:19-31; John 15:6; 2 Peter 3:7; Jude 1:7; and other verses). For some religions the universal salvation seems to be a logical necessity. But Jesus said to Peter, “You are not mindful of the things that be of God, but those that be of men.” (Matthew 16:23). The punishment from the Son of God is as much everlasting as His life in His church (Matthew 25:46; Mark 16:15-16; John 3:16; Revelation 14:9-11; 20:10).

The everlasting torments of billions of lost people in hell ought to force us to more faithful mission, intercessions, outreaches and sacrifices. The Catholic Priest Boos said, “The fool-headed world is redeemed but does not believe it!” The hardening of Jews, Muslims and atheists, however, is no excuse for those who are driven by the Holy Spirit not to offer them the gospel of Jesus Christ arduously (Hebrews 12:1-2). The salvation has been accomplished for all mankind!

PRAYER: Merciful heavenly Father, please preserve me and all readers of this book from the punishment of the everlasting hell fire, which will never be quenched. Grant us a sincere repentance and a firm faith in Your salvation, and write our names in Your Book of Life. Particularly, have mercy with the children of Abraham so that they may return and recognize Your great love and accept You as their Father and Redeemer from the blazing hell fire. We give thanks for Your grace and Your salvation through the atonement of Christ, which He has accomplished for all mankind. Amen.

QUESTIONS:

  1. Why did those who believe in universal salvation (i.e. automatic salvation of everyone, even Satan himself) fall into the devil's trap?
  2. Who will be devoured by the second death? Why?
  3. How long will Christ's salvation last?
