REVELATION - Behold, I am Coming Soon
Studies in the Book of Revelation
BOOK 7 - YES, I AM COMING SOON! (REVELATION 19:11 - 22-21)
PART 7.5 - THE NEW WOLRD OF GOD (REVELATION 21:1-8)

5. God Guarantees That the New World Will Come Into Existence (Revelation 21:5)

I Make: In His speech from the throne the Lord says, “Behold! Attention! Now something impressive is happening! I am performing something!” God is not only mighty, glorious, wise and holy, but he is also acting, working, operating, healing, saving, renewing and judging. God does not sleep. He is intervening in the world affairs. We are all living on His actions.

The creator created the old earth with his great wisdom, love and glory. Live, light, air, water and fire as well as plants, animals and men originated from His pleasure. They came into being according to His will and exist because of his actions. He is implementing all things which he has intended. After completion of His creation he rested. His peace, joy and opinion about His creatures culminated in His words, “Behold, it was very good!” (Genesis 1:31).

However, after the lie and the rebellion penetrated into His beloved creation, the Lord couldn’t rest any longer! Christ said, “My father has been working until now, and I have been working, too.” (John 5:17). Therefore God called men of faith over and over again, revealed them His faithfulness and His law, punished the disobedient and nevertheless granted them breathtaking promises.

Jesus is working, too. The Son of God came into the world, he was healing, teaching, blessing, he called His disciples, died for all sinners, rose from death and poured out the Holy Spirit on the waiting and praying disciples. By His work the great promises to the fathers of faith were being fulfilled step by step.

I Make All Things New: At the end of time the old heaven and the old earth will flee from the holiness of God and vanish in the spacelessness of eternity, as they have to make way for a new sinless existence (Revelation 20:11).

The birth of Christ and His resurrection from death revealed in a veiled manner the mystery of the new creation in advance. After his resurrection Jesus appeared His disciples in a spiritual body and was able to go soundlessly through walls and rocks. In His live, dying and resurrection the Holy Spirit had become visible. Now we are to transformed in his image, we are to live like our Lord gently and humbly, holy and full of love so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers (Romans 8:29). John testified, “But we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” (1 John3:2b).

Whoever believes in Jesus will be sealed with the Holy Spirit, the pledge of our eternal inheritance which will become visible at the time of our redemption when Christ returns. (Ephesians 1:13-14).

Concerning this matter the apostle Paul explains, “So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.” (1 Corinthians 15:42-44)

Already previously Jesus revealed that the new spiritual body is entirely different from the current mode of existence. In the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. (Matthew 22:30) Here is one of the great misapprehensions of Islam: due to the grotesque lies in the Koran many Muslims believe that in the paradise an increased sexual potential is available and may be enjoyed. However, in fact, in the new world not at every corner a temptation to sin will lurk. All kind of egoism is and remains overcome, not any kind of wickedness will be known there.

Not only men will transformed into the gentle, loving and holy image of Jesus Christ, but also nature will be renewed and transformed: “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us; for the earnest expectation of creation waits for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who has subjected the same in hope; because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God; for we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now.” (Romans 8:18-22; see also Isaiah 11:6-9; 65:25). The new earth will not be cursed like the old one (Genesis 3:17-19).

Strictly speaking is the new creation not a creation, but it is born anew by the loving will of God. His everlasting live will be pure truth and tender love in the Holy Spirit. Human words can hardly describe this new existence. But whoever looks at Jesus, may know how the new creation will be unfolded out of him. (John 12:24).

PRAYER: Our Father in heaven, we worship You because You cause us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Your Son Christ from the dead and through the power of Your Holy Spirit. You put the substance of the new creation in us and in the faithful followers of Christ that His love, truth, humility and power might appear in their conduct. Amen.

QUESTION:

  1. How does the creation of our heavenly Father begin in us today?
