GENESIS 10
The genealogy of all nations in the Old Testament and even today +++ GENESIS 11:1-9 -- Mankind desired to settle in one place, but God wanted them to fill the earth, so he multiplied their originally one language. -- (DATE: Up till 1757 after Adam for Genesis 10. And around 1750 after Adam for Genesis 11:1-9)
DISCOVER Genesis 10: After the flood the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham and Japheth, were fruitful and multiplied. The following lists the descendants of these three sons of Noah.
Japheth had seven sons, Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech and Tiras. -- Japheth’s son Gomer had three sons, Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah. -- Japheth’s son Javan had four sons, Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim and Dodanim. -- From these the coastland people emerged and spread with their languages, clans and nations.
Ham had four sons, Cush, Egypt, Put and Canaan. -- Ham’s son Cush had six sons, Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, Sabteca and Nimrod. -- Cush’s son Raamah had two sons, Sheba and Dedan. -- Cush’s son Nimrod became the first mighty man on earth, a great hunter before the Lord. He established his Kingdom in Babel, Erech, Accad and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. From there he went on into Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah and the great city of Resen. -- Ham’s son Egypt had seven sons, Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, Pathrusim, Casluhim (from whom the Philistines originated) and Caphtorim.
Ham’s son Caanan had eleven sons, Sidon, his firstborn, Heth, the Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, Arvadites, Zemarites and the Hamathites. -- These clans of the Canaanites then dispersed until their territory spanned the region from Sidon in the direction of Gerar to Gaza, and in the direction of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha, where they lived according to their clans, languages, lands and nations.
Shem had five sons, Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud and Aram. -- Shem’s son Aram had four sons, Uz, Hul, Gether and Mash. -- Shem’s son Arpachshad had one son Shelah. -- Arpachshad’s son Shelah had one son, Eber. -- Shelah’s son Eber had two sons, Peleg and Joktan (“Peleg” is Hebrew and means “split up”, for in his days the earth split up). -- Eber’s son Joktan had thirteen sons, Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, Hazdoram, Uzal, Diklah, Obal, Abimael, Sheba, Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. -- Their territory, for all their clans, languages and lands, extended from Mesha in the direction of Sephar, to the hill country in the east.
From these descendants of Noah came all nations and people that spread across the earth after the flood.
DISCOVER Genesis 11:1-9: Originally these families, tribes, peoples and nations, listed in Genesis 10, all spoke one single language. And all the people moved together from the east until they came to a large plain in the land of Shinar. There they said to themselves: “Let us settle here, for here we can make bricks for stone and can find bitumen for mortar. Let us build a great city with a tall tower all the way to the heavens, so that we can make a name for ourselves and not be dispersed across the face of the whole earth.” As they toiled for this gigantic plan, God came down to see what the children of man had built. And as he surveyed their work He acknowledged that as one people, communicating all in one language, this city would only be the beginning of what they would accomplish, for nothing would be impossible for them, once they set their mind to it. (Working together on this one city, however, went against God’s command He had given their forefathers to multiply and spread across the face of the earth.) So God decided to confuse their language, so that they would no longer understand each other and stop being one united people. Thus the LORD dispersed the children of man from their city and out into the world, because they were no longer able to communicate in one language. (REMARK: Always remember: the language, which you speak today goes back to God’s work of creating Adam in his own image, so that he and we could understand what He says, and it also goes back to this event of God multiplying our originally one human language to become the more than 7000 languages we have today on earth. Your language came about through divine intervention. Therefore God can understand you, when you speak to Him in prayer!)
PRAYER: Our heavenly Father we worship and adore you, because when you created Adam and Eve in your image you created them in such a way that billions of people could descend from them. This, your blessing upon the first human beings, was not diminished by your flood judgment on earth. Rather your blessing remained active in Noah and his sons with their wives, from whom all present-day human beings on earth have come forth. Today we ask you to use us so that through us many spiritual descendants will come forth through our humble proclamation of the Gospel of your Son Jesus Christ and therefore more and more people from all nations and tribes on earth will adore and sing praises to your holy power to multiply life, when those, who believe in Christ, will all be with you in heaven for ever. Amen.
QUESTION 10: Which nations that can be traced back to the sons of Noah in Genesis 10, play prominent roles in the rest of the Torah of Moses?
