GALATIANS - I Have Been Crucified With Christ
Studies in the Letter of Paul to the Galatians

PART 4: FREEDOM FROM THE LAW OF MOSES IS THE FOUNDATION OF CONDUCT IN THE HOLY SPIRIT (Galatians 5:1 – 6:18)

4. Carry each other's burdens (Galatians 5:26 – 6:5)

GALATIANS 5:26 – 6:5
5:26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. -- 6:1 Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. 3 If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, 5 for each one should carry his own load.

Haughtiness is contrary to the Holy Spirit, for the blessed Spirit teaches us to regard the others as better than ourselves. He who thinks himself better than the poor or the wicked is blind and sick in his heart, for love is humble, and it does not cause, through your haughtiness toward your fellow man, a complex, but comfort through humility.

Christ himself was extremely humble. Don’t you wish to follow him? Why do you hesitate to confess that you are the greatest sinner in the world? Are you still haughty? He, who knows his sin, and the grace of Christ, does not condemn or reject the others at all, but he helps them with patience, deliberateness, and compassion.

The spiritual man knows that he has in himself all the possibilities of evil, and therefore he resorts to Christ. Also, in his look at the others, he bears in his love all that fall, and he treats their problems in his prayers, contributions, and services. The emblem of the believer is service, and not condemnation of the others.

What do you do for Christ? Sympathy and empty words are not sufficient. Your faith must be realized in deed, for he who loves becomes a servant and a carrier of the burdens of the others. Your value before God is subject to the extent to which you allow his Spirit to lead you to service. If you still like esteem and arrogance, then this means that have not been completely saved from evil. But where the love of Christ appears in your tiredness for the others, God honors you, blesses you with a new power, and adorns you with spiritual fruits. In heaven, there dwell justified sinners, and not boastful masters.

Study prayerfully, asking Christ to reveal to you the place of your service in your house, or in your surroundings. Ask him to make you a true servant. He may guide you to a faith testimony, faithful supplications, money contributions, or practical services. The divine love opens your eyes to the necessary spiritual services. So, pray, and serve.

Did you know the way to fulfill the law of Christ? It is not a heavy law for self-sanctification by toil, but it is the call to bear the others without cessation. Love is the fulfillment of the law. Nobody takes from you this privilege, which is a true burden, for the Son of God himself exemplified before us the way of perfection that we might follow him joyfully.

PRAYER: O Lord, I am proud. But your Son humbled himself to service, so help me to follow him, and to bear the burdens of the others as Christ bore our burdens. Thank you for our salvation. Change my evil heart that I may participate in bearing the burdens of our nation, and see the people who expect my visit and my service.

QUESTION:

  1. How do we fulfill the law of Christ? What is the difference between his law and the law of the old covenant?
