E - Commandments of Christ related to Principles of FAITH in the New Covenant

2. WHO IS GOD?

John 4:23-26 -- 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." 25 The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When He comes, He will tell us all things." 26 Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He."
Luke 6:35-36 -- 35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. 36 Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.
Matthew 5:44-48 -- 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
John 17:11 -- Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.
Matthew 4:10 -- Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ' You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve. ' "
Matthew 6:24 -- No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
Matthew 6:30-33 -- 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Matthew 19:4-6 -- 4 And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,' 5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh '? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate."
Matthew 22:21 -- They said to Him, "Caesar's." And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
Matthew 22:28-32 -- 28 Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her." 29 Jesus answered and said to them, " You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven. 31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, 32 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."
Matthew 26:64 -- Jesus said to him, "It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven."
Matthew 27:46 -- And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?"
Matthew 6:9-10 -- 9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Summary

Our Lord Jesus Christ did not present to his followers a systematized teaching about God; but where he surveys their thoughts, their worship, and their hope in God, the names, attributes and deeds of God shine in the sayings of Christ. Jesus did not mean to offer us, through his revelations, a mental doctrine about God, but he wants to unite us with his heavenly Father practically and truly. He does not want us to take the name of God in vain, or to take it indifferently, but he wants us to pronounce it with fear and trembling, and to love him with all the heart. Jesus does not want us to own God in our thoughts, as if we had understood him, but to put ourselves at his disposal that he may own us, and we may experience his holy love.

Jesus declared in his commands to the church, and to all the hearers and the discerning in faith that the great God is his and our Father. God is spirit, and he is perfect in all his attributes. Jesus particularly emphasized his love and mercy. The heavenly Father is omniscient, wise, and almighty. He is life in himself. He created all things wisely and in good order; therefore, we are apt to act according to the orders of God, believe in our Father who looks after us, honor him, and obey him.

Most of the Christians in all churches testify: “I believe in God the Father Almighty; Maker of Heaven and Earth”. The fathers of the church gathered the declarations of Jesus about his heavenly Father in these words, and they are secure in his goodness and protection. How great is the privilege that is granted to us by Jesus: to call the holy, eternal God, “our Father”! This became possible after the death of his only Son as atonement for sinners, for his blood cleanses us from all sin. Because of this blood of the covenant, we had the right to call Godour Father”. After the atoning death of Christ, the heavenly Father poured out his Holy Spirit on the praying men who waited for the promise of the Father that they might be regenerated and born again by his grace. We have become legally and spiritually children of our heavenly Father. The Eternal One lowered himself to us in Jesus to lift us to his level that we might become his household and members of his family.
