2. The Spiritual Growth of the Kingdom of Heaven: Christ Teaches in Parables (Matthew 13:1-58) -- The Third Collection of the Words of Jesus

e) The Net Cast Into the Sea of Peoples (Matthew 13:47-53)

MATTHEW 13:51-53
51 Jesus said to them, “Have you understood all these things?” They answered him, “Yes, Lord.” 52 He said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been made a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings out of his treasure new and old things.” 53 It happened that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed from there.
(Mark 6:1, Luke 4:16)

The disciples thought they had understood all Jesus’ teachings. He looked at them and smiled mercifully, for knowledge is not everything, but practical application in life is required. Do not say hastily that you understood Christ and His gospel. Live out what you know that you may recognize your need of more revelation, and repeat the verses carefully with constant prayers.

Shallow and general information about the New Testament is not sufficient to us. We need to be deep-rooted in every part of it, to partake of the power and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, that we may be fully developed in everything pertaining to life and godliness and be teachers to others. How astonishing that a mature teacher would not share his own thoughts but share those of Christ, and testify for him with the respected words of the apostles, and confess his new experiences of the Savior. Every intervention of Christ into our world with His saving works is a great miracle that deserves praise and thanks to our living Lord. He answers the prayers, confirms the faith, and showers His followers with blessings. His kingdom is not inactive, but living, growing, and developing. Do you prepare His way and work in His harvest? Do you see a growing of His faith in your nation? Glorify your Lord with your testimony. Do not call Him only Master but call Him, if possible, the Almighty Lord and the Son of God, the faithful Savior.

PRAYER: We glorify and worship You Holy and faithful Lord, for You did not neglect or leave our wicked earth, but cast the net of Your gospel to all the peoples. We ask You to draw in millions these days, to employ us in the salvation of many, to help us keep Your word in our hearts, and to bring Your word to our friends, testifying through our works today that Yours is the power and the glory forever.

QUESTION:

  1. What does the parable of the net teach us?
